Themata tuning is used by the band Karnivool as their standard tuning. It was used to write their entire debut album 'Themata' as well as most of their songs since. The low BF#B allows for heavy riffing whilst the high Gbe allow for access to upper registers and higher voicings for leads. Also gives access to gritty dissonant chords.
The band has also made slight changes to the tuning for certain songs, including dropping the G to another F#, (a perfect 5th above the fourth string) and then occasionally dropping the high e to a d for an open Bmin type tuning.
